Brett A. Perlman Biography
Brett A. Perlman is a well recognized management consultant, Board member and strategic advisor. He is President of Vector Advisors, a management consulting firm working with telecommunications and energy clients, and serves as an independent Director to public and private equity-based companies.
Prior to his current role, he was a Commissioner on the Public Utility Commission of Texas. He was appointed in 1999 by then-Governor George W. Bush and served until his term ended in September 2003. In this public service role, he was responsible for leading the successful restructuring of Texas’ $37 billion electric utility industry and $4 billion telecommunications industry as these markets opened to competition. As a result of his leadership, Texas has been widely recognized as an international model for successful electric market restructuring.
His consulting practice specializes in working with senior executives on business strategy, business development, marketing, policy and regulatory issues and mergers and acquisitions. Engagements include advising private equity firms and hedge funds, including Centerbridge Partners, Kravis Kohlberg and Roberts (KKR), Texas Pacific Group (TPG), GE Capital and Davidson Kempner on merger and acquisition issues, serving utilities such as NRG Energy, Entergy, Consolidated Edison Solutions, and MidAmerican Energy and working on clean energy issues with Fortune 500 and entrepreneurial companies and academic institutions, including Johnson Controls, Nest Labs, EnerNOC, and the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston.
In addition to his consulting work, Mr. Perlman has served as an independent Director and strategic advisor to several public and private equity-based companies. He has been an independent Director of Just Energy Group, a NYSE and TSX listed gas and electricity retailer, since 2013. He serves as a member of the Audit Committee, the Risk Committee and the Nominating and Governance Committee. Mr. Perlman recently obtained certification as a Governance Fellow from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) in recognition of his commitment to ongoing professional development as a Corporate Director.
Mr. Perlman also serves on Boards of a number of community organizations, including the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston and the Advisory Board of the Houston Technology Center. He is also a co-founder of the Surge Accelerator, an early stage energy incubation program.
Earlier in his career, he was a consultant with McKinsey and Company and has practiced law with major firms in Houston and Washington, D.C.
He holds advanced degrees in public policy from Harvard University and in law from the University of Texas and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University.
